Declare a holy fast, call a special meeting…Round up everyone in the country. Get them into GOD ’s Sanctuary for serious prayer to GOD.”
Joel 1:14 MSG
There’s something in that passage that charges my spirit “Okay, 2018 21 days of prayer and fasting. Let’s do this”. However, my spirit and flesh are not on the same page when it comes to fasting. It’s just not my favorite thing. It’s never fun denying your own self! I remember our very first fast as a newly married couple. Brandon suggested we do a true food fast… as in water only. Y’all, I had never fasted a day in my life and he wanted me to go straight water for 21 days! I’m laughing out loud at myself right now remembering the dramatic agony I performed that night. I honestly just remember crying to the Lord asking why my husband was doing this to me. Who did he think I was? I also remember him caving and “allowing” us to eat a can of green beans at dinner. At that point, I had never eaten better. It was Day 1. Needless to say, we’ve grown through the years. We’ve also seen God move over the past 13 years as husband and wife more than ever when prayer and fasting are involved. It has been a key factor for me personally to help me draw closer to God, experience breakthroughs, and even see true miracles take place.
So as you are hitting the doldrums of the fast and your flesh isn’t quiet where your Spirit is, remember the why. What are you praying for? How are you actively seeking God to move in your life? Go big with it, He’s a big God!
As you move forward, it hope this speaks life to you:
“What motivates the flesh differs profoundly from what motivates the Spirit. Self motivates the flesh. Love motivates the Spirit. So, when our flesh motivates us, self takes the lead. When love motivates our hearts, God’s Spirit takes the lead.”
