A Challenge Worth Overcoming

I think it’s pretty safe to say that 2021 isn’t the cake walk we all, in a sense, deserve from the beating that 2020 threw at us. It seems that chaos is somewhat normal in this day and age and I have to admit it has taken a toll. I sit and think about how awesome my 21 days of prayer and fasting last year was compared to this year. I mean I can’t be the only one… Right? The only one struggling with this? Even in my own day to day, everything is just so hectic to a different level this time around and I just feel discouraged. So, what do you do? Give up? Thats not really me but settling for less than I know what God is capable of achieving… Sadly, I can be guilty of that. It wasn’t until earlier this week, when I was having a one on one convo with God, that he hit me with something.

In Mark 5 there is a story about a woman who had a bleeding issue and used all of her resources to find healing from doctors that only made the issue worse. How she had heard of a man named Jesus and all of the incredible things he was able to do. So she made it an absolute mission to get to him. NO MATTER WHAT. The bible says that Jesus was surrounded by a multitude of people at this time and that she had to push through this sea of people to get to him. The only thought on her mind: “If I can only touch his clothes.” I wonder how many times she had to say that to herself before she made it to him? How much doubt came over her, how much fear, how much chaos was in her mind pushing through these people? In all honesty the bible says Jesus was actually on his way to heal a little girl when all of this took place. I wonder if she second guessed herself thinking it wasn’t her turn so to speak. “IF I CAN ONLY TOUCH HIS CLOTHES.” If any of that was in her mind she pushed through it anyways and boy did it ever pay off. As soon as she touched his clothes EVERYTHING changed. The issue dried up immediately and she was healed. That mindset changed everything. The unrelenting desire to just touch his clothes, to just be in his presence, turned everything around. That’s the mindset I want for the rest of this fast. The mindset that says He is worth it no matter what. See, HIS PRESENCE CHANGES EVERYTHING. It always has and it always will.

So Cultivate, I leave you with this simple story and challenge for you. No matter how hard you’re struggling this year, his presence is worth overcoming that struggle.  I like to think of it like the woman. If I can only push into his presence then everything will change. With that kind of mindset I have no doubt we will see incredible things in our families, church and throughout Shelby County.
