New year, new you! Right?! No. I hate this phrase because I don’t believe a new year means a “new you”. I believe a new year is a chance to prioritize a starting point for us to cultivate growth in our lives over the new year. This year, lets not fall into the stereotypical “New Years Resolutions”. You know the ones I am talking about, the weight loss, eating better, less TV watching, more reading! The list could go on and on. While these are all well and good resolutions to have for a better life, I think that this year we need to do something much more than that! I think this year we need to take some time to look deep down inside us! This year needs to be more than just about being better at “something”, this year needs to be about GROWTH!
Grow by discovering who God is. That means spending quality time with Him, intently seeking after who He is. During these times, ask Him questions! Ask Him what His plans are for you this year, how and where does He plan to use you, what should you focus on, what should you lead or who should you lead! When you do this, He will reveal Himself to you. We can’t lead others, if we don’t know who He is.
Grow by discovering who you are. This may sound cliche but truly discover who you are this year. Not what you feel the world or family/friends say you are but who God says you are! In doing this you will discover what I call the ‘Three P’s”, your Purpose, Passion and Part. Challenge yourself to dive into Cultivate through small groups, serving or just building deep relationships with others. When you seek these things, you will truly discover who God made you to be.
Don’t just make 2018 a clean slate, make 2018 a chance to grow the slate you already have now!
Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize for which God called me through Christ to the life above” ~ Philippians 3:14-14 (NCV)
